Kia ora whānau
Matariki is a time for remembrance, celebrating the present and looking to the future.
As we prepare to celebrate Matariki at Glenfield College during Week 9 (Monday, 24th – Thursday, 27th June) the following activities will be held:
Monday, 24th June and Tuesday, 25th June:
Students are invited to decorate Hiwa-i-te-rangi wishing stars in the canteen during break times. These stars can be exchanged for a Hiwa-i-te-rangi star cookie on Wednesday, 26th June.
Monday, 24th June to Wednesday, 26th June:
Guess the number of star lollies in the jar and enter your guess in the canteen during break times. The winner will be announced at lunchtime on Thursday, 27th June.
Tuesday, 25th June:
Matariki Kahoot: this will take place during Mentoring for senior students and Reading Plus for junior students. This activity will allow us to build on our understanding of what Matariki is about.
Wednesday, 26th June:
Exchange your Hiwa-i-te-rangi decorated star for a Hiwa-i-te-rangi cookie. These can be exchanged in the Whare Kai at lunchtime.
Thursday, 27th June:
Thursday’s form class will be extended to allow for shared kai. This is to celebrate Matariki by bringing people together to enjoy one another’s company. Students are invited to bring along kai to share. This could include, cookies, cakes, sausage rolls, sandwiches, chips, crackers, muffins or whatever you decide to share with your fellow students.
We thank our Year 9 Te Reo class for organising these events for us.
