The North Shore has many attractive amenities such as local leisure centres, swimming pools, libraries, parks, and sandy beaches. There are also many places to enjoy nature, such as golf courses, boating and sporting clubs. There are large shopping centres with bus networks and ferry services into Auckland City. Auckland City is surrounded by two harbours and is called the ‘City of Sails’. You can visit museums, festivals, markets, and many cafes, restaurants, and shops. The North Shore has several tertiary education establishments. Many of its secondary schools enjoy excellent reputations.

Within Glenfield itself, there are many amenities of interest to teenage students. Many international students use the Glenfield Leisure Centre, which is close to the college grounds. It has a well-equipped gymnasium and an excellent swimming pool. The Leisure Centre is next door to a large shopping mall with shops and many eating options.
Summer in New Zealand begins in December and ends in March. Winter lasts from around June to August.
