Madisyn Macleod, Year 10, on what Adventurous means to her:
Adventurous, what does it mean? Is it just what you read in the dictionary? The set definition, adventurous: willing to take risks or try out new methods, ideas, or experiences. But that’s not all it has to mean. People spend too long being afraid of what they don’t know and tend to stay with what is comfortable and safe, but is that really living? Is that taking advantage of everything life has to offer?
To me, adventurous can mean many things, like doing something completely out of my comfort zone and challenging myself weather it is physical or mental. Me speaking, right now in front of you all, is adventurous to me. My life is pretty adventurous, which is the reason I was picked to do this. I have been a part of many sport teams and extra curricular groups, circus and performing arts. I was also apart of the Project K 2018 group, which I will talk more about soon. Being adventurous plays an important part in life because through this, we can test our courage and learn many things from failure to success. Being adventurous can also lead to many more opportunities, such as leadership roles or learning how to work with people. These skills will help you throughout your whole life. Through adventure we can make our life fun, exciting, worthy, and valuable.
Now back to Project K. I was hesitant to participate; however, I am so glad I went along with it. It was an amazing, eye-opening journey that left me with many memories. It challenged me physically because, well, there was a lot of hiking and cycling but mentally as well by learning so much more about myself and my capabilities. It also challenged me by teaching me to work with new people in new environments, and I learned to cooperate in the hardest of times.
Adventure is about going out of your comfort zone to open yourself up to the experiences and beauty that life gives you, no matter what path you choose to go on. It is more than okay to be nervous or scared, but never let your fear stop you from taking that chance or that opportunity from yourself. My challenge for you is to try something new and to be adventurous.
Thank you.
