On a night that was better suited to boating rather than field sport, the Glenfield College Touch Girls, coached by Ashley Fennessy became the 2017 North Harbour Touch Champions. In torrential rain, the girls were pitted against Pinehurst School in the semi-final and cruised past their opposition with ease, running out 12-1 winners.
The final match saw the girls matched-up against Westlake Girls High School, in what everybody appreciated would be trying and testing conditions. The game started well with Dayna Stevens breaking clear to a touchdown for a 1-0 lead, but a few mistakes saw Westlake gain a good territorial position and they quickly levelled the score. When their handling was put to the test the superior skills, power and pace of our girls came to the fore. With two further scores from Dayna and a brace from Anzia Singe, the Glenfield College girls secured a comfortable, if not very wet, championship victory.
