Last night we celebrated our annual Whanau Awards in the Wharenui. Te ropu kapa haka o puawananga welcomed our guests with an amazing powhiri. Ellen, Ngahuia and Jessica performed the karanga and a duo/solo song was sung by Premila and Leafu. They performed with mana, pride and respect. Certificates were presented by Whaea Donna and Whaea Millie to those students who had worked towards Polyfest in Term 1. Yanni Shepherd was awarded the Te Taonga a Ngata Ruru Trophy for Services to Kapa Haka and Jamie Maiava won the Clements Cup for the Most Outstanding Performer in Kapa Haka in 2020. The trophies for the best all-round junior Maori students went to Jessica Bickford (for the second year) and Ethan Kahaki. A huge thanks goes to all staff who helped to organise this.
